Abstract
The Return of Josif Bageri aims to shed light on: the settlements, antiquity, and Albanianness of Upper Reka; on the circumstances of life and the assimilation of the Reka people from Albanians to Slavs (initially into Serbs and then into Macedonians); on the deathly silence of the nobility and historians of the Mother State, which has said almost no word about the denationalization of a region of compatriots with tribal and special traditions; on the causes of the assimilation of the Reka people; on the tragic intra-Albanian divisions, instigated by hegemonic Serbian-Macedonian policies; on the life and work of the titan of the “Kërthizës së Shqipënis”, Josif Bageri; on the places of displacement of Albanians outside and within present-day North Macedonia; on the possibility of reviving life in Upper Reka and on the future of the region of Albania.
